In the 2012 World Premiere of Carson Kievman’s opera Hamlet, the Miami Herald praised Kenneth Mattice as “a charismatic Hamlet; his fine lyric baritone spinning the often unaccompanied solos effortlessly.”  These accolades have been echoed by Opera News (“handsome baritone [voice] displaying a glistening edge”) and by Vienna’s Der Neue Merker (“exquisite”).  Besides performing throughout the United States, this Wisconsin native recently made several important international debuts.  Another debut will begin this fall, as Mr. Mattice joins the soloist ensemble at Theater Hagen in Germany.  In the 2014-15 season he will perform Valentin in Faust, Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, Don Fernando in Fidelio and Miles Gloriousus in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.

In the 2013/14 season Mr. Mattice made his German operatic debut with Oper Dortmund as Larry King in the Continental Premier  production of Anna Nicole, had role debuts as both Eisenstein and Falke in Die Fledermaus, and performed both an all-German and an all-Italian concert for Middlebury College in Vermont.  The previous season’s engagements included creating the title role in the World Premiere of Carson Kievman’s Hamlet in Miami, creating the lead role in a closed reading of Musical Appreciation (a New Musical  by Ben Yarmolinsky), a house debut with Opera Delaware as Silvio in Pagliacci, a concert with the Falmouth Chorale & Orchestra, concerts in Savannah, Georgia and playing Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia with Florida Opera Theater, Vero Beach Opera and First Coast Opera.

In other recent seasons, Mr. Mattice has performed the role of Aeneas in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas for the Macau International Music Festival, was in Bergamo, Italy to sing the role of Petruccio in Efrain Amaya’s World Premiere production of La Bisbetica Domata at the Festival Internazionale della Cultura, and sang Cascada in The Merry Widow with Maestro Anton Coppola at Opera Tampa.  Engaged for two-years as a Resident Artist with Opera San José, Mr. Mattice sang Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor, Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, Albert in Werther and Germont in La Traviata.  He has also performed Guglielmo in Così fan tutte for Shreveport Opera and Opera Providence, Dandini in La Cenerentola for Union Avenue Opera in St. Louis, Schaunard in La Bohème for Baltimore Opera, Procolo in Donizetti’s Viva la Mamma for Opera Saratoga, Malatesta in Don Pasquale for the Newton Symphony Orchestra and Escamillo in Carmen at the Ravinia Festival.

Mr. Mattice has also been a semi-finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, New England Region, a national finalist in the Liederkranz Competition and a semi-finalist in the Armel Opera Competition in Hungary.  He was also a winner in the Palm Beach Opera Competition, the Bel Canto Italian Opera Competition, the Friends of Austria Competition and the Quad Cities Opera Competition.
