Beginning January 1, celebrate a new space for the arts with the revival of the historic 1937
Little Stage Theater @ SoBe Arts

SOBE ARTS CABARET, Music, Theater, Multimedia - bar & tapas by Red Light

Premieres at 9:00pm on New Year's Day, January 1, 2010 and includes a VIP Champaign Reception at 8:30pm.

cavUnder the direction of Executive Artistic Director Carson Kievman, SoBe Institute of the Arts will welcome the new year January 1st with a fresh and compelling multimedia arts cabaret to celebrate the renovation and reopening of the Little Stage Theater @ SoBe Arts. The Grand Opening Cabaret will feature an innovative and stylized experience that incorporates musical and visual elements from the 1930s and 1940s, around the time the 1937 theater was first built. "We want to honor the historic nature of the theater," explained Dr. Kievman, "but at the same time we're looking to create a very contemporary experience. We've interspersed the original torch songs with theatrical vignettes from other eras, and together they make for a bizarre and compelling look at relationships." Kievman adds that there will also be scenes from the popular "Tunes 'N Toons" production that was commissioned by Miami Beach to close November's Sleepless Night event, combining esoteric live music from the 1930's with classic film animation and live action. "A Funhouse Ride for Adults."

Starring actors Ivette Viñas, Andres Lefevre, Philip de la Cal and featuring Montserrat Franco as Betty Boop, Created & Directed by Carson Kievman .

Conductor, Carson Kievman, Keyboards - Kiki Sanchez, Clarinet - Paul Gordillo, Tenor Saxophone - Juan Silveira, Drums -Tony Suarez, Bass - James Quinlan, Trumpet - Osvaldo Fleitas

montA special grand opening of a unique performing arts venue in Miami Beach’s cultural arts district. With an artistically innovative cabaret series, SoBe Institute of the Arts will celebrate the revival of a long-dormant theater in one of the city’s most historic, yet little-known settings. This interdisciplinary performance event will build on the organization’s growing reputation for high-caliber artistic productions and will introduce the public to the Little Stage Theater, an intimate black box theater in the heart of the city’s Cultural Arts District Neighborhood Overlay (CANDO) zone. Together with the adjacent Carl Fisher Clubhouse, these historic facilities will be put on the cultural and historic tourism map.

Read what the media, blogs and people have been saying:

"On the first night of the new decade, candlelight flickered atop small, packed tables inside the dark interior of the intimate venue. Laughter and song echoed and spilled outdoors. And a historic complex in the heart of a cultural district came to life once again, courtesy of the SoBe Institute of the Arts and the city." David Smiley, The Miami Herald

This Friday and Saturday night at 9 p.m., you can get a last taste of the cabaret at SoBeArts/The Little Theater on South Beach. It was held over because it was so damn popular.... All in all, in rescuing this theater from disuse was a great thing, Kievman and company are to be congratulated. You should go tonight, but call ahead because tickets are limited. And get ready for several more shows -- including one that promises Shakespeare and music. This is something the neighborhood -- and Miami Beach have long needed. Miami New Times

"The grand New Year's night opening of the Grand Opening Cabaret is over.  But SoBe Arts is still reviving the spirit of divine decadence at the reopened 1937-vintage Little Stage on Miami Beach." Christine Dolan, The Miami Herald

"Go see a show here! The price is so inexpensive that you could pay for two tickets here for the same amount as a cocktail at the W just down the street. But I guarantee you'll have a better time at SoBe Arts." Ross K. Yelp.com Review

"The champagne has worn off and so has the prospect of changing your ways in 2010. We're happy to steer you further away from your short-lived affair with self-improvement. Damn the diet, because MiMo's Red Light restaurant will provide tapas and drinks this Friday at 9 p.m. And to hell with the health club - you can get your exercise fix by taking a musical and visual trek back in time to the '30s and '40s at the SoBe Institute of the Arts' Grand Opening Cabaret." Raina Mcleod, Miami New Times

"Bravisimo!!! It was great and exhilarating!! M.V.

"Fantastic evening! we had GREAT time! You need to charge a bit more for tix"  K.F.

"Thank you so much for for sharing with us such a wonderful time at the Grand Cabaret in the Little Stage Theater! It was a much welcomed diversion from the typical SoBe scene that adeptly explored love & life through comical & timeless classic cartoons, talented vocals & acting, and, of course, accomplished in...strumentals to make a night worth remembering!! THANK YOU, SoBe ARTS!!!" M.M.

"We were delighted.  The performance was clever, creative, innovative, and thoroughly professional. Thanks to all of you, and to all the others, for your work on this important endeavor." H.S.

"My husband and I had a great time last night at the Little Stage Theater. The Cabaret was lovely. A bientot." S. D.

"I really enjoyed myself and the performances- the singing, the musicians (live musicians are very exciting), the acting and of course the cartoons. I'm also so excited about new things coming to south florida." M. A
